The first two Regional Meetings have been very well received, as you can see
by the comment below.
“Don, I would like to compliment you
and your compatriots for the well-executed Charter School Directors Meeting held
at Phoenix last Friday--I especially found the segment on "telling the
group your issues" and having them give feedback, advice, and support---as
I mentioned there, it reminded me of a doctoral level class I had in
consultation, where the professor gave the opportunity for students to face the
class, describe a problem or challenge, and get instant, brainstormed feedback.
I was always blown away by the creativity, experience and wisdom the rest of the
group had to offer and Friday was no exception---I recommend setting that
segment up that way and keeping it separate from "questions, comments from
the Directors"---
Anyway, good show, and thanks for your
efforts and willingness to help us help our kids,”
Our last two Regional Meetings are scheduled and notice has gone out. Please
plan to attend, if you can, the richness and quality of these meetings is really
determined by you getting together with your colleagues. We are excited to be
part of this process and happy to facilitate. You don’t want to miss out on
this!
Both meetings run from 12:30 to 3:30, lunch will be proved. Please RSVP
if you plan to attend so we will know how many lunches to prepare.
Thank you,

A series of four Regional Meetings are being scheduled as a follow up to the
Charter School Directors Workshop, October 23rd. Donna Brant plans to
participate in each meeting and contribute to the ongoing statewide
conversation. These meetings are designed to develop and strengthen
Oregon
charter school leaders. This activity is sponsored through a Dissemination
Grant given to
Luckiamute
Valley
Charter
School
.
Quality schools begin with quality leadership. Charter schools in
Oregon
have come a long way and there is far to go to reach the goals and dreams
envisioned. This is a unique moment; critical factors seem to be present for a
leap forward. The conversation begun in October will continue in small regional
groups to brainstorm strategies to deal with more difficult, long term issues.
Directors will discuss successful strategies; promising practices; common
barriers and solutions; identify resources; areas of interest and expertise;
begin to form learning teams to focus on specific issues; suggest ways to work
more closely with the reform minded traditional education community. Individual
charter schools are making a positive difference daily in the lives of children
and families in
Oregon
. Every charter school has a stake in this conversation. It is time for charter
school leaders to step up and begin to take responsibility for a broader impact
on public education. Help develop the next generation of leaders that will take
us into the future. You are invited to be present and participate in this
exciting time;
We need your help, and we can’t do it without you!
